CCA – February Meeting/Seminar

Winter fishing from our shores and in our waters will be the fascinating focus of the CCA of Skidaway’s February meeting and seminar to be held on Monday, February 9, at St. Peter’s Church beginning at 7:00 pm. Captain Judy Helmey, owner and operator of Miss Judy Charters, will be the featured speaker.

Captain Judy has agreed to talk about everything from inshore to offshore fishing, shark fishing, specialty bait use, strange fish sightings, right whales, blue bottled man-of-wars, broken back shrimp, and the many interesting sites she has seen over the years while traveling the high seas. Fishermen will also be invited to ask any questions and share Captain Judy’s expertise and experiences.

Captain Judy Helmey has been a successful charter boat captain and has been “kicking fish tail” since 1956. She took over her father’s business, Captain Sherman Helmey’s Charter Boat Company, which he started in 1948, and its new name became Miss Judy Charters in the middle ‘60s. It was considered one of the first deep sea fishing charter services in Savannah. Captain Judy is a self-taught accomplished author and columnist for many monthly/weekly publications. For over 20 years, she has provided the southeast with current weekly fishing conditions. She is also known for her publications of popular fishing stories, based on actual accounts of her fishing experiences, numbering in the thousands. Captain Judy’s favorite published stories are “Little Miss Judy’s Believe It or Not!” – stories from her unbelievable childhood. Others are based on her father’s long working relationship with “Big Al Capone!”

The CCA’s February raffle for attendees will offer a place on a future sail with Captain Judy.
