Parents and youth leaders agree spending time outdoors and learning about our island’s varied natural environment and our abundant fish and wildlife species is one of the great benefits of life on our island. CCA Skidaway’s “CAST AWAY CLUB” events provide hands-on nature education along with fishing experiences for our kids several times a year.
A key part of the success of CCA Skidaway events is the role volunteers play in making it a memorable event for every participant. We’re looking for volunteers to help out with our 3rd Year of these Youth, Nature and Angling Program. Rather than sending you an email for each event, we are using this one sign-up process for all four events in summer/fall 2022.
There are a number of volunteer opportunities;
Fishing Buddies: As a Fishing Buddy you will help kids stay safe, bait hooks, land fish for youngsters when needed, untangle lines and identify which kids need help and show them what they need to do to successfully “catch fish”. - Registration Table: As a registration volunteer, you will assist in signing in the kids, help complete the registration worksheet and hand out the name tags.
- Fishing Equipment Triage: Volunteers will help prepare equipment before each session by inspecting the fishing rods to ensure they are in good shape, untangle lines, tie on hooks/bobbers to ensure the rods are ready for the event. After the event the volunteers will fix equipment as required and store all equipment in the CCA shed.
- Photographer: As a photographer, you will take photos and short videos that record the event so that it can be shared on our website.
Cast Away Club Events begin at 9:00 am (check-in for kids at 8:45) and after the presentation(s) end with fishing wrapping up around 11:00)
Volunteers should plan to arrive at the Kid’s Lagoon around 8:15 for instructions, and will be done around 11:00. Additional details will be provided to you before each Cast Away event. If you have any questions please contact Susie Fusco @912-247-7433 or sjbfusco@aol.com
