Coastal Conservation Association Skidaway welcomes Abby Sterling and Allie Hayser of the Manomet Bird Observatory for our Monday, September 12th seminar at St. Peter’s Church beginning at 7 pm. We will learn about the incredible habitats that shorebirds from across the hemisphere depend on, right in our own backyards!

The Georgia Coast is a home or stopping point for over 300,000 shorebirds every year, and in order to protect the places they need, raising awareness and building partnerships is a critical step. For animals that travel tremendous distances — like migratory shorebirds that span continents, or fish that leave ocean life to spawn in rivers and streams — a diverse network of healthy and intact coastal, riverine, wetland, and grassland habitats are critical to ensuring that migratory populations thrive.   Manomet’s Georgia Bight Shorebird Conservation Initiative seeks to do just that, through highlighting Wildlife Beach Zones, connecting with ecotour groups, and building partnerships with the boating community. Learn more about these programs, the shorebirds that they are benefiting, and ways that you can get involved!

Recently, the Georgia Bight Shorebird Conservation Initiative received support to bring on a shorebird technician, and so Allie Hayser, a Tybee Island resident, joined the team! Together, they are working to protect the critical habitat that our shorebirds depend on, and to raise awareness of the importance of the Georgia Bight. They strive to unite partners in management, conservation, and research to benefit the shorebirds of the southeastern coast.

The CCA’s September raffle prize will be a $100.00 gift certificate to Castaways - a chill spot for relaxed American dining with ample seafood options & indoor/outdoor seating.
