2025 December 14th Oyster Roast – Volunteers Request

image-20251015095539-1.jpegCCA Skdiaway's Annual Oyster Roast and Pig Pick'n Event is set for December 14th at the Landings Harbor Picnic grounds. We are seeking able bodied people to help with various tasks needed to make this signature event the success it has always been.  If you are available on Saturday the13th and/or Sunday the 14th shown below are the tasks that are needed for each day. And again this year, Jeff Harper has agreed to take the lead on coordinating the work teams for all aspects of getting the Picnic Grounds ready for this signature event.  Our volunteers are the engine that makes this event happen. 

Once we receive your responses, we'll confirm final assignments and provide any additional details prior to the volunteer dates.

Facility Set-up (12/13 @ 10AM -  Day Before the Event) – Pick up and move trash cans and coolers for ice from the Harbor Marina- to the Harbor Picnic Grounds. Unload the tents, tables, chairs and other equipment from the TLA trailer. Arrange Oyster barrels and trash cans into and around the Picnic area. Set-up the tents for the food distribution line and the registration desk.  (5-6 volunteers needed)

Facility Set-up (12/14 @ 11AM -  Day of Event) 

(We expect the Tables/Chairs Rental company to deliver needed equipment to the Picnic Grounds early this day to be ready for set-up later in the morning) -

Set-up table for registration/check-in, put-up signs for registration - use stanchions and/or tape to funnel crowd to entry/registration point. Put table coverings on all dining tables – secure using duck tape. Set dining tables and chairs in a configuration that will accommodate upwards of 250 people. Ensure that the oyster tables and barrels are in the proper place, washed and cleaned and ready to accept the steamed seafood. Review the readiness BBQ area tents and tables are covered and ready to accept the pre-prepared food. Set-out trash cans/liners and recycle containers with signs for bottles/cans/plastic, place CCA Event signs leading from the Picnic area entrance to the grounds, establish parking areas, set out safety cones as appropriate look for the TLA Secutity to arrive around 1PM to direct traffic into the proper parking spots and ensure that restrooms at the Harbor office are open and ready to accept attendees.  (9-10 volunteers + 3-4 Students or YCA Volunteers)

Post-Event Take-down (at 4pm) -THIS IS CRUCIAL...Volunteers will be needed to help take down all rented tables and chairs and have them stacked and prepared for next day vendor pickup. Oyster tables and barrels need to be cleaned and returned via trailer to the CCA shed in the Public Works area. TLA tents, tables, chairs and other equipment will need to be returned to the TLA trailer and prepared for towing back to the Public Works area the next day. All filled trash bags need to be placed in the Harbor Marina dumpsters and cans cleaned and returned with beverage coolers to the Marina.  (6-8 volunteers + 3-4 Students/YCA Vols)

We can't thank you enough for helping with this event which raises funds for CCA GA's efforts for the next year. Your help enables our Skidaway chapter to remain one of the strongest national chapters.
