CCA’s Cast Away Club invites you to learn all about magnificent creatures that live along our coast - it’s the Bottlenose Dolphins! Peach Hubbarb, President of The Dolphin Project is Cast Away's guest speaker on August 24th at 9:30 am at the CCA Educational Center.
Peach is flipping to share how we can protect these magical marine mammals. You will learn how Bottlenose dolphins send messages to each other through squeaks and squawks. How they use body language by leaping as high as 20 feet in the air snapping their jaws, slapping their tails on the water surface, blowing bubbles and even butting heads to ‘talk’ to each other. Did you know each dolphin is born with a special whistle which is their ‘name’, just like Mom and Dad gave you a special name when you where born and that their dorsal fin is like our fingerprints?
The Dolphin Project was founded in 1989 and is the longest running and largest ALL-Volunteer organization dedicated to the protection of the bottlenose dolphin. They follow the guidelines of the Marine Mammal Protection Act and conduct photo-ID dolphin research.
After the nature program the kids and their parents will have an opportunity to fish together from 10:00 to 11:30. Rods, reels, and bait will be provided by the CCA (Coastal Conservation Association). Volunteers from CCA will be available to assist. CCA Skidaway is sponsoring this FREE event for all the Landings children.
