Angel Barboza, President of the Savannah SCUBAnauts International is the guest speaker for CCA Skidaway’s monthly seminar on Monday, June 10th starting at 7:00 PM at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church at 3 Ridge Road.
Formerly known as SCUBA Scouts USA, SCUBAnaughts was founded by Captain David Olson in Palm Harbor, FL in May 2001. His vision was to use scuba diving to learn about the marine environment in a recreational manner.
Angel Barboza helped establish the Savannah Chapter in December 2020. The mission of SCUBAnaughts International is to educate teens in the marine sciences, enabling them to make a positive impact on the environment and empowering them to become tomorrow’s leaders. The teens are trained to become scientific divers and participate in conservation by conducting coral restoration and provide research for NOAA, MOTE, and REEF by conduction fish and benthic surveys.
Angel has served as president since 2023. He moved to Savannah in 2010 working for Gulfstream Aerospace, he is currently Vice President of Innovation and Future Programs. He is married with three daughters who are all rescue and scientific divers. His wife and youngest daughter are active members of SCUBAnaughts. Angel received his bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering from Cal Poly State University and his master’s degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Washington.
