What better way to spend a chilly winter afternoon than with Kyler Gartner and Brett Renard (of Rivers and Glen) creating flies. Our next fly tying workshop is scheduled for Sunday, Feb 25th from 1-3 PM at the TLA conference room. Last month we made a Mamba Ant and Marsh Magic.
Kyler adopted the lifestyle of a fly fisherman and tyer at a relatively young age. Hailing from North Platte, Nebraska, he learned the fundamentals of fly fishing from his grandfather in the various lakes and ponds in his home state during the summer months. Kyler grew up in South Carolina and was fortunate enough to experience the outdoors in such a rich environment. When the weather doesn’t permit for fishing, fly tying is a hobby within a hobby that keeps him constantly connected to the water.
Brett Renard and his wife Caroline Cathey are two of the newer members to the Landings community and Golf Club. Brett’s 20 year career started in 2005 at Rock Creek Outfitters working a local fly shop, while attending college at the University of Montana. From there he moved to Park City, Utah to pursue a career in the ski industry during the winter, and then during summer was full time guide on the Green River. Brett’s also a passionate bird hunter, chasing birds across the country with his pointer Benny. He is also a die hard golfer, playing since he was 3 years old.
Equipment needed for fly tying includes a vise, scissors and bobbins. Those interested and have fly tying equipment, please bring it with you. If you do not or have any questions or concerns about this workshop, please contact Paulette Hamilton at sushi1103@mac.com.
The cost for this workshop is only $10.00 and is for CCA members only. Not a member or your membership expired? Not a problem, just go to our web site to renew or join.
The workshop is limited to 10 in order to give a more one on one hands on instructions with two of the best tyers in the area!!
For anyone interested, Kyler will be teaching an advanced pattern fly called EP Baitfish on January 18th (from 6-8 PM) at Rivers and Glen’s Suds & Bugs in Savannah which is open to the public.
