CCA Skidaway 2022 Annual Fundraising Drive

Spring will soon be “bustin’ out all over” and our island’s anglers are not far behind as they rig up and get ready to head out to their favorite lagoons as the weather warms up. The Covid experience has, in fact, encouraged a significant increase in fishing activity both among veteran anglers “getting out more” and newcomers “getting started for the first time.”

The Skidaway Chapter of the CCA is, of course, a non-profit organization and we depend on your generous contributions to support our initiatives and, notably, our programs to ensure great fishing in our lagoons!

We continue to build awareness and understanding of the need for quality marine habitats in our coastal waters. We recognize that clean water and environments that support healthy fish stocks are important to both angler and non-angler alike. Our 151 fresh and saltwater lagoons on Skidaway Island also provide critical habitat for a range of native species including near shore birds such as herons and egrets as well as birds of prey such as bald eagles, osprey and different species of hawks.

We are expanding our educational programs that provide seminars and “hands on” workshops for both new and experienced anglers. Look for a schedule that will include events on fly fishing, saltwater fishing and bass fishing in our lagoons. Our exclusive “Lagoon Guide” has been recently updated and we have a series of “get started” presentations on our website, ccaskidaway.org. The “Cast Away Club” provides island youngsters with a great introduction to nature topics and fishing at our Kid's Lagoon.

We work hard to ensure that our lagoons support healthy and growing numbers of fresh and saltwater fish species. In cooperation with TLA Public Works Department, we actively manage our lagoons through seining and electro fishing programs that provide key data for our stocking program which annually adds thousands of fish to selected lagoons. Our Kid’s Lagoon, by the way, is right now chock full of fat bluegills!
