Savannah Chapter Info

The CCA Savannah Chapter is off to a fast start in 2014. Our goals in 2014 include projects in habitat and conservation, fisheries management, and public education programs on conservation.

Our accomplishments thus far this year include a “Fisheries Management 101” Seminar held at Armstrong Atlantic University and attended by 85 conservationists. Our guest speakers included John Duren, Commissioner on the ASMFC, Duane Harris, Councilman on the SAFMC, Doug Haymans and Caroline Belcher, PhD of the Coastal Resources Division of the Department of Natural Resources. These four speakers gave us an in-depth understanding of the complexities of fisheries management

Our ongoing Oyster Reclamation Project is in full swing. Our sponsored oyster reclamation site is at the President Street Extension boat ramp (off the Islands Expressway), and to date, we have bagged over 10,000 pounds of oyster shells which will be used to create new habitats in our local waters.

I am also proud to note the Savannah Chapter was very active in the successful passage of HB 869. We called our legislators, we wrote letters to our legislators, and even visited with our legislators to ensure that everyone understood the importance of HB 869.

Upcoming events include:
